TMJ
TMJ, short for temporomandibular joint, refers to the hinge joints that connect the jawbone to the skull. TMJ disorders involve conditions affecting these joints and the surrounding muscles. The massage techniques we use focuses on relieving muscle tension and pain associated with TMJ. Methods may include:
Trigger point therapy to release tight muscle knots in the jaw, face, head and neck
Myofascial release to ease muscle restriction and improve mobility
Lymphatic drainage massage to reduce inflammation
Massage can be helpful for managing pain and discomfort related to TMJ muscle tension when part of a comprehensive treatment plan. While not a substitute for medical care, massage therapy is one tool that may provide TMJ sufferers some relief from tightness, spasms, and pain when approached cautiously and correctly.
